Jordon Bourgeault always enjoyed art, but it wasn’t until a friend commissioned him a helmet to paint when he realized art could become his full-time job.

Bourgeault’s journey in becoming an artist –and one of the biggest Airbrush names in Western Canada — is showcased in the pilot episode of Creative Canvas, a 10-minute web series that highlights Calgary artists who use unconventional art forms.

Directed by Ximena Ríos, a Mexican-Canadian filmmaker, the series aims to share the stories of local artists and to show a different side of art.

For many North Americans, Colombia has a bad reputation: gangs, violence, druglords, you name it. Television shows like Narcos don’t do it any help.

However, the Colombia depicted on TV is in the past. The country has moved on and it’s glowing.

My boyfriend lived for a few years in Colombia, so we made plans to visit Medellin — the country’s second-largest city, it’s home to great art, music and restaurants.

We booked our trip a year in advance, to get the best price on airplane tickets…

You were tricked into thinking it’s bad.

Growing up, I often heard the women in my life complain about having cellulite or orange skin, as magazines and advertisements call it.

They talked about how they despised the so-called imperfection and avoided wearing shorts or dresses above the knee to hide it.

When I was thirteen years old, a family member called me out for having a lump of cellulite on my left leg and said that I should begin to work out because I was too young to have cellulite.

Too young or not, about 80 to 90 per cent of women have cellulite.

“Developing the dimpled…

On February 9th, Mexicans woke up to the news that Ingrid Escamilla, a 25-year-old was found dead in the north of Mexico City. Images of her violented body were found in Mexican tabloids, websites and social media.

Six days later, on Feb. 15, the entire country mourned over the death of seven-year-old Fatima Cecilia Aldrighett, who was reported missing on Feb. 11.

With marks of rape and torture, Aldrighett was found inside a sack wrapped with a plastic bag three kilometres away from her school in Tulyehualco, a neighbourhood in southern Mexico City.

The two cases created the most impact…

There are three major attachment styles: secure, avoidant and anxious. Image by Dallas Reedy/Unsplash.

Have you ever wondered why people jump from one relationship to another, why your friend always gets back with her/his ex after breaking up for the 5th time or why do some relationships really last forever?

There is a scientific answer to those questions: their attachment style.

But first, you need to learn about the so-popular, yet unknown for many, attachment theory.

While working for the World Health Organization in 1951, psychiatrist John Bowlby published “Maternal Care and Mental Health,” where he exposed a theory on Maternal Need and described the process of how an infant develops a strong attachment…

I’m only 22, but I spent more than half of my life trying to lose weight.

When I was eight years old, on a Christmas eve, one of my aunts asked me what my bottom size was.

I felt ashamed of revealing I was a kid’s large since my other cousins were thin, so I lied.

“Medium,” I responded, nervous.

My aunt nodded, gave me a fake smile and went to the back of the room to join her sister. I heard her saying how the skirt they had bought for me wouldn’t fit.

“She getting fat, she’s not going…
