Kate Kenin

Kate Kenin describes herself as an “immature” 71-year-old. Born and raised in California, Kate loved Canada even though she had never visited. In her twenties, she served in the army, got married and moved to Canada. Nowadays, after living a life filled with adventures, she has settled in Calgary and is a proud member of the Rainbow Elders of Calgary.

🍁 What advice do you have for today’s twenty-somethings, or what do you wish you knew when you were twenty-five?

A lot. I wish I had known then how important it is to put savings away.

Also, you need to look at everyone beyond what you see on the outside. Look at their heart and at what’s really in them.

Another thing is to treat everyone the same and be kind. Always try to be kind to people. Doesn’t matter what they wear or what they look like.

Another one is to put yourself in everyone else’s shoes and don’t believe anything until you see it for yourself. This applies to gossip.

Finally, you don’t have to be best friends with everyone, but just be nice because that’s how we build the kinder, gentler world that we want.
